Oh my goodness, I just came across this--men's shirt studs made out of the carapaces of scarab beetles set in yellow gold. I need these.

Good lord. I can see that being used as a prop in the next sequel to the Mummy, when the Mummy knocks over a casino boss: Mummy's Eleven.

Still, very interesting. Where on earth did you find these?

Although I rarely get colored leathers, I do get them. I have alligator belts in saphire blue, royal blue and emerald green. For casual, a red wallet could be interesting. I think the key here is luxury, if the leather is good quality, nicely dyed with an elegant finish and put together masterfully, the item has cachet.

Take for instance yellow as a car color, on a Ford it's bad, on a BMW it can be cool.

I would personally stick to medium or daker colors.

I suppose these colors would be frowned upon? Oh well, I still enjoy them.

If ever A Rebours got a film adaption, they have their prop right there.

I saw them on the Fedora Lounge, where a member apparently owns them. They look Victorian considering their obsession with grotesque animal parts and jewelry.

not leather...if it is the carapace it is the actual exoskeleton of the beetle.

I seem to recall a scandinavian interior where an interior dome was coved in scarab shells. It looked stunning. Wish i could find that foto again...

it's little known nowdays, but huysmans became quite ascetic towards the end of his life...even spending a year or two in a benedictine monastery.

Despite how it might seem, A Rebours is a very Christian text. It can't get past that moralizing tone which while not obvious permeates every element of the descriptions. Huysmans was one of those struggling Catholic esthetes. His La Bas is also like that--like a lapsed missionary trying to override his guilt in order to indulge.
