True, it is a rather inane article. I only posted it because I thought it was funny AND because it does help to explain the origin of the OP's original concern. Other people do think this way about leather jackets, even if they cannot fully express why. Tom Cruise looks just as author describes him. I've seen a lot of older men dressing in a similar manner with their leather jackets and I'm amazed at how "off" many of them look. But the author then takes her observations and turns them into a generalization used for condemning the leather jacket. Like many popular advice columns, it's a shallow analysis that tends to error on the side of recommending what will be the "sure thing" for most people, even if it is not universally true. Would you actually expect Details magazine to offer anything more than that?

Tom's leather looks high quality and seems to fit well. I don't see the problem with it or the fact that he is almost 50 and wearing it. I find him to be weird generally however. He could have picked a more interesting sweater.

Agreed. I don't like most fashion reporting because it does nothing to help people develop their own style. It just whipsaws people between trends. The goal seems to be to make people more insecure, so they are dependent on a publication to guide them to what is in or out. We all know this already but I just feel like repeating it after reading that article. Details and its competitors are really only suitable for reading if you can find an abandoned copy at the airport while waiting for your connecting flight.

Found a details mag at my dentist's office last time I was in. I found my read to be more painful than my dental filling procedure.

Just saw this thread.. but when you think about it, I don't he was using the term ****** to be homophobic. I think he really was just using it by its new meaning as so wonderfully displayed in that biker episode of South Park.

Damnit Tyrone, now this thread's front page again! It's not like Atlas is coming back, it's been 2 months. Let my post hopefully be the last, lest we have some redundant discussion bumping this corpse.
