Hi guys,
I have an A.P.C. City mac – like here http://www.endclothing.co.uk/a-p-c-city-mac-coasd-h01103-iak.html – and I'm having a bit of trouble with it after laundering.
It's cotton-based and a really dark, intense navy colour. Or was. As you can see in the pictures, it has a real 'sheen', and is a really striking thing to look at. Well, it was.
Washing instructions are 'gentle wash 30 degrees celsius'. I put it in my ordinary washing machine for a gentle/long cycle at 20 degrees celsius. Well... it has come out quite dramatically faded. The deep navy and the really nice sheen you can see in the pictures (mercerized cotton?) has now gone. It's just a sort of flat, navy colour. Slightly whited around the stitching and edges. It actually looks a little shabby and worn, dare I say it. This has been put in the laundry once I hasten to add; I understand that repeatedly laundering something and wearing it will inevitably degrade the material and wear it out. I've had this coat for 3 weeks. I'm so surprised by the change in its appearance that I'm coming to post here! Afterwards, I ironed it through a cloth towel to prevent heat damage.
Anyone have any advice with washing dark navy, cotton macs? Or with APC in particular? I'm a little gobsmacked – these things ain't cheap! Or just any advice about cotton-care or outwear-care in general? Part of me wants to buy another; this could be an insanely costly mistake!
Thanks!
