Anyone ordered their Vass shoes with soles trimmed closer to the edge?

Just wondering if anyone has asked Vass to trim the soles closer to the edge? I'm not sure that I like the way the sole sticks out the sides of the shoe. It seems to take away from the sleekness of the U-last. Is this the sort of request one can make?

You can ask them. I am not sure this would be possible though. Beacause you have there not only the oustole but the welt too. They must have some space to put the stitches.

I totally agree and asked for this very feature and they accomodated on a MTO pair. I admire this feature on my Edward Greens which have the trimmest welts in my experience. I think on dressier shoes this makes sense. If I were to order another pair of Vass though, it would be a pair of their double monks on the U last and I would probably do a double sole tapering to a single and would prefer the standard welt extension on a model like this. The shoes now belong to dr.no. You can see them here and here.

It's probably easier (in the sense of keeping things simpler for Vass and thus avoiding errors due to information overload) to just do it yourself. I've had this done many times by my local cobbler. I show him exactly what I want, and he trims the soles back as far as he can while still leaving sufficient margin outside the stitching. It's a $10 job, and the edges are smoothed and refinished to be as they were originally.

I had them do on my pair as well. IMO it looks much better.
