Anybody else getting strange MSN Messenger Contacts?

The last two mornings, as I've opened up MSN Messenger, I've had a request to add an unknown Chinese person to my contact list. It seemed fishy and spamworthy to me, so I blocked each of these people.

I know we've all gotten chinese spam emails before, but has anybody gotten a request to add somebody like that to their MSN Messenger buddy list? I'm guessing somehow my email address got around, but I just had never seen this before.

I'm just wondering because I'll feel bad if I accidentally blocked somebody that I met and just forgot (keep in mind I teach ESL and Japanese and so meet many Asians at department gatherings), but I also don't want to be adding some crazy scammer to my already meager buddy list.

I've been getting reams of those, too, in the past few months. I'm not really sure how it happened, as my email login is several years defunct.

Thanks for the response. It makes me feel a little better that I didn't accidentally block a new colleague in the foreign language department.

Yes, I've thought it odd, too, because I've always gotten lots of spam emails, but only these two in as many days actual MSN contact requests to add them to my buddy list.

I must say I don't see the point; what do they think they'll get? I'm talking to my buddy in LA and then pops up, "Hey, you like it, the Viagra???" They must know they'll get blocked immediately...

Or, I wonder if it is simply that they get paid by volume of emails/contacts received? I have no idea....

Yes I got a few of those as well. They always have very normal looking e-mail addresses. once you added them, they'll immediately send you a messege regarding some website for you the visit.
