Yeah after a heavy night of drinking. The next day is criminally unproductive, what with the REM cycle fucked up, sleep schedule fucked up, etc... It usually takes me 2 or 3 days to readjust back to normality with my schedule. It's gotten so bad I completely cut out drinking on Saturdays.

A book by (Dr.) William Dement called The Promise of Sleep addresses many of the issues raised in this thread. It does not address appearance, but maybe because it is from 1999. Research is indicating the obvious, that lack of sleep is aging. One would expect style-focused (e.g., probably vain) people to be more concerned about, ahem, beauty sleep. There is a book by another doctor called Beauty Sleep: Look Younger, Lose Weight, and Feel Great Through Better Sleep.

Sleep has a tremendous impact on how I feel the next day. I see little difference is drinking a lot of alcohol and being hung over the next day, and not sleeping nearly enough.

One of the reasons that I lift weights at night is because it makes my sleep so deep. I will lift, maybe sauna, then drink water and eat something, do some reading for 30 mins or so, then shower and go to bed. It's a great feeling.

Edit: To be honest, the sleep is the primary reason that I work out now. The better body is just a secondary benefit. There is something to be said about the relaxed feeling sore muscles have when they are recovering as well.
