What advantages would small shoemaker have other than QC? I wonder if a Handmade shoe can be that much better than machine made? I actually thought the other way as the machine would be more productive in a way?
A factory made shoe is a template that a machine can produce with repeatable ease and without any thought.
A shoemaker that reproduce smaller batch artisanal craftsmanship is intentionally making decisions about how the shoes are being made each step of the way, and is able to bring the detail and level of “quality” to an entirely different level by making adjustments to create the best result. Moreover a machine requires a certain thickness of material and lack of finesse when making the finer detail aspects of the shoe. A shoemaker can use a smaller tolerance of material and construction strength by ensuring each stitch or lasting nail is done to the highest level of accuracy. A machine cannot think like that obviously.
Does this mean every shoe made in a workshop is better than a machine made one? No, but when talking about Meccariello, I’d wager he is.

dude, how good does it look "to you", I like it, but you might or might not, and with AM you don't have to worry about construction
