I'm not the best expert in exotics identification but in my experience alligator has tiny wrinkles between scales that I don't see in your pictures.
After a lot of investigating I have come to the conclusion that it is embossed. I see a lot of descriptions that say alligator leather which I think is a sneaky way to say embossed. Authentic straps usually state so on the strap. Whatever it is a moot point since I have a large wrist and the strap is too short. I replaced it with a cognac brown authentic extra long crocodile strap. The original is going on eBay as genuine Montblanc "alligator leather strap" :sly:
