Yes, the bottom is leather, but the edging is nice veneer of oak.

I wouldn't mind seeing them incorporate magnets in the sole for easier switching of the veneer for future offerings.

Recent comments about AE at Burlington made me stop by to see what i could see... And ran across these suede Macneils - $139. Should I kop or release back into the wild?

Edit: or would a sand suede chukka or LWB from Frye ($84 or $79, respectively) be more versatile? I have nothing in sand suede BTW...

What? there is no wood on a shoe. It's all leather outsole...unless you're joking.

Huh? What do you mean? Where is the wood?

Do you mean the leather sole?

I think he means the sole edge, which is made of wood.

You all mean to tell me that NONE of this hulking black edge is some kind of wood or particle board variant??? HAVE I BEEN SO WRONG????!!!

I prefer the snuff suede MacNeil's over the sand suede options from the pictures... but maybe it's the lighting.

Is this a more accurate color in person? Which if that's the case, all seem like decent options for a cheaper casual option. I still prefer the MacNeil to the Frye LWB due to the medallion detail (not too familiar with Frye's quality)

The one in gaithersburg had a lot of eagle county boots and suede wingtips (forgotten which model speifically). Arrundel mills had a lot of daltons (not seconds from what I gathered).

I was at Arundel Mills last night. Not much left in 10.5-11-11.5.
10.5 D: Clifton in brown calf $140
10.5 B: Lake Forest blucher in chili
11 3E: Presidio loafer in black
11.5 D: Schautal reddish brown suede longwing blucher

At Gaithersburg just now:
10.5 D: Schautal reddish brown suede longwing blucher
11 D : Haight black chelsea boot $100
10.5 D, 11.5 D: Eagle Country boot in light gray $100

I'm in the market for my first proper pair of shoes. AE right now has a sale on its website. Its McAllister Wingtip Oxfords are usually $385 but are now selling at $280 for example. Is this a major discount or does AE routinely have sales like this? I'm not in a particular rush as the job I work in now is casual so I can always hold out for a better deal. I'm just trying to figure out whether this is a particularly good deal I should jump at.
