New laces?
New laces?
Congrats! Set your own rolls, and you're ready to......roll...I did get some new laces! They had the waxed cotton laces on sale for $3. I seem to be hard on laces. But, it’s probably attributable to the fact that most of my collection Is vintage, so the laces are old and break. But, as exciting as new laces can be, I’m more excited about the shoes!

I have over 100 pair in my collection. BUT, this is the very first pair of NEW Shell Cordovan. I have a number of Shell shoes from AE, Alden, and others. But, this is the first pair I have gotten that are new.
I love the look of your Black Hills -- they look like Badlands, which I think are terrific. For me, they are a much better fit than the Wilberts. Did Badlands replace the Black Hills, or were they also part of the Rough Collection? Were the Wilberts part of it, too?
Light shell does darken with age and dark shell lightens with age. On a long enough timeline and with enough wears, most shell colors (at least browns and tans) will eventually approach roughly the same medium brown shade. Of course, that would likely take a looooong time.
You probably haven't worn them outside for long enough to see them change color either.I like to put a light coat of wax down after conditioning to seal everything in. I rarely see bloom or color degradation.
My Badlands were stamped "handcrafted in the USA" and I've only had them for about a year and a half. So I think the production change, which has now come to include the Wilbert, is fairly recent. Thanks for your reply.Thanks. I think the Badlands were never part of the Rough Collection. I don’t think the Wilbert was either but I could be wrong.
Yes, I suspect the Badlands was deemed a replacement. Both are PTBs on the 5-65 last but there are (I think) these differences:
* BH has Toby Mini-lug. BL has Othello sole.
* Per AE website, BH had Dublin. BL is described as “calf.”
* BH were Made in USA. BL made in DR.
if memory serves the Black Hills are in or near the Badlands area of the Dakotas. So the names are linked. But I suspect the name change was related to moving the shoe off shore. I wish they had extended the same courtesy to the Long Branch.
