My request: accompany the year-in-review with each of your respective forecasts from January 2019.

Not much for me.

AE:
-search for a Higgins in natural
-hope that the new offerings are of interest

C&J:
-Pick up some kind of plain toe they offer, eventually. Probably the Lanark.

Sell:
-AE Williams in brown ?
-maybe the Alden 911

Resole:
-Rothsay, add brick dainite, eventually.

Huh, I can’t disagree with that advice more.

Granted I’m three whole sizes smaller, but after a lot of trial and error, I’ve completely written off plain toe anything. I find that the vast unbroken surface of plain toes makes my size 13Bs look clownish, but more visually busy designs like MacNeils and Strands break up the space and make them look more normal.

And I’ll add that I’m 6’3”. Seems like the perfect overlap of getting questions about playing basketball and the weather up there but still being able to buy clothes off the rack.
6'2" here and size 13, so I agree. I find plain shoe's to look like small boats on my feet. I prefer something with brogueing as well.

Pretty much anything you bought in shoes in 2019. Non-AE shoes are fine to include. But no Cole Haan, please.

Not counting shoes I acquired and then resold...

2 AEs (Chili Strand and Navy 1A), 11 Aldens, 2 Viberg, 1 GS

And then I believe I'm waiting on 5 Alden preorders and 1 Carmina preorder.

USPS has a shoe shipping box that you can order from them for free and it works great. A local post office might have them too. It has USPS insignia all over it, so I don’t think any other shippers are an option, but IMO they’re the easiest and cheapest to work using Priority Mail.
I have said box at my house and it does not fit an AE box inside. At least not my size 13 shoes. I can however fit the shoes inside without the factory AE box. Just and FYI

Would you guys consider this pair Firsts? Burnishing on the left cap is very uneven/splotchy and there are two weird grain lines. This pair is my 2nd attempt at an acceptable version of walnut 5th aves. Returning these would mean trying for a third. Shame since the burnishing on the right is very uniform. @ae_ashley

If the fit is good I’d just get some good polish and fix them myself. Who knows what they’d send you a third time. I love AE products but buying them is a challenge.

Bond Street wasn't always a cap-toe? How old does that make this pair?
Those are from 1983 according to the date code. I have a pair in black,in good condition but not unworn New Old Stock like these! The earliest Bond Streets in the 70’s we’re actually monk straps! 8.5 fits me but not at that price point!

A little snow outside. Winter Strand is perfect for this.

I will also post pictures later in the year. I only counted 7 AE received (1 on the way in 2020), and 1 pair of Alden.

AE:
Nuemok - olive
McTavish - natural
Park Ave - merlot (vintage 2002)
Wilbert - brown (from Dabondo)
Porter - green (was a gift from some fine gentleman on this board)
Strand - green shell
University - walnut (almost forgot about this one!)

on the way...

Strand - bourbon shell (at the AE mothership)

Alden:
9501 - natural

Biggest regret:
Not winning the bid on that new natural Higgins on Ebay that sold for $108.

Slow year for me, which was a good thing considering I'm badly out of space.

AE
Rainier brown
BB Kenwood black grain
Patriot black shell
Ely brown nubuck
Nags Head tan
Strandmok brush-off brown
Turner red suede
Porter tan suede
Porter walnut weave
Super Sport brown
Super Sport gray nubuck
Dalton burgundy shell
Higgins camo cxl
Higgins brown tumbled

Alden
Indy 403 cxl

GS
Traveler Penny crimson cxl
Diesel boot black cxl microstud

Ah, I've never had such a quick buy-sell turnaround that I've still had the box, except for a pair of Edward Green Galways. I LOVED those boots, but also was so terrified of wearing them in actual boot weather that I decided to not keep them. I regret that decision from time to time, especially since the price for them from Skoaktiebolaget after removing VAT and the favorable exchange rate was barely more than a pair of shell Alden boots are now.

Well done. I was surprised by the number of AE purchased this year. I zeroed in on the Nags Head, as I didn't know until your post.

I will have to do some reflection on the 2019 shoe collection shifts, I didnt track as diligently as some around here. I sold off a few items but added more. When the wife gives me grief, I can just point to my friend @darkclassic to deflect having an actual problem (just kidding, my friend! ?).

Bartletts kicking off the work week here. Each time I wear these reminds me how comfortable the Independence line is. Happy Monday fellas!
