Thank you. But they have a few issues. I got them used off eBay as the Bayfield was B.A.E. (Before my Allen Edmonds time). They were really "well worn" when I got them. Lexol and VSC have helped quite a lot, but the stitching in the caps is a bit frayed, and I'm not thrilled about how they were creased on the shaft. Also, hard to see in the pictures, but the tip of the caps are wrinkled vertically. It seems to have been a lasting issue. If I reach in and feel the stiffener, thats the part thats wrinkled, the shell itself seems fine, but it shows through.

A question for you: Is the stiffener on your pair considerably short of the brogue strip? Thats whats causing that straight crease across the cap on mine.
You did a great job on them. My "new" 10.5D CXL has the same issue as yours and causes creasing at and just in front of the toe cap. Thank goodness the black calf and shell do not have that issue. When the Bayfields were in production some of the early ones seemed to have quite a few problems in the QA department and it took awhile for things to settle out. And they also seemed to show up more times than not in the CXL model.

Honestly, I *hated* the Dainite soles on my Rush Streets - they felt hard, were bad in cold weather and generally felt like a really poor substitute for leather.

I've heard Dainite has changed their composition in the last couple years. I recently wound up with a pair of olive Strandmoks with Dainite, and the composition is much softer and feels more comfortable. I'm actually pretty happy with them. I'm still more likely to replace it with a butyl sole or similar when the time comes, but maybe they'll convince me.
Agree with your assessment of the older ones I have no experience with the newer ones. Dainite soles on wet marble and tile used to be more slippery than leather soles. And worthless in snow and worse than worthless on ice. Never understood why some liked them so much, sounds like the new ones are finally better.

Any thoughts on those vs Rainbows? These are Rainbows I bought for $10 a few years ago, and they've survived just about everything and are still going strong.

I also have Chacos, but those are in another league.

I've been wearing Rainbows since I was in high school. Those look to have more cushion than the Rainbows. It would take a lot for me to change to something else, but would def try those on.

Well guys, I did it -- I ordered my first medallion cap toe. I'm going to do the store pickup route so that one of my AE guys can get a little benefit. They only had one bourbon Strand left in my size, and if these look good, this will be my only "detailed" shoe in my collection. The C&J Connaught will have to wait (or will it?

). I just feel like I would forever regret missing out on a bourbon Strand.

Love hearing about Rainbows! Great story of Sparky and the growth of that company. Another company with amazing CS - just like AE.

Probably shouldn't post this in Classic Menswear section but <gasp>... I got married in Rainbows. The entire wedding party was in sandals. Not to worry, though, we changed into dress shoes after the outdoor ceremony. Back story: wife and I were both swimmers, grew up in suits and flips. Needless to say, we were barefoot or in sandals whenever possible. Too bad my feet require more support these days. I can barely get out of bed without sliding into my red Kirkwoods.

Help please! Went to put my walnut Daltons on this morning and noticed this little gem. No clue how it happened, possibly a few too many one night and I didn't even notice it at the time. Either way, any of you barn weasels have some suggestions as to how I can repair this (if its even possible)? Thanks in advance!

Never seen this entry. The Hagerstown??

It is , uh , unusual.

This is what happens when a Bellevue boot and a Kirkwood shoe get drunk at a party and sneak off to the boat house when no one is looking.

E belt color pairing questions:

I was looking for burgundy Manistee, do not see one. How far off will oxblood or chili be?

would walnut work for Strandmok (buck)?

Any of them to stay away from?

I found the Merlot wide basic and Manistee belt to be almost too dark even for my Merlot McAllisters. I ended up going with the oxblood belt which IMO works for oxblood, Merlot, and burg shell. I find my brown Manistee works well enough for chili, brown, and brown shell.
