i have been looking at picking up some used Allen Edmonds, I’m sure there is a side debate on that along, but the budget dictates more than desire sometimes.

I found a pair I like but am curious as to the fading of the leather (at toe and heel), what’s it designed this way, if not is it fixable?

Never owned a dress shoe nicer than an Ecco so bare with any stupid questions.

I'm no expert but nobody else has responded so I will. If this is damage or neglect, it will probably go away with a bit of leather conditioner and shoe cream. But, there could be a lot of causes: owner used a darker polish which wore away on the ends, shoe was designed like this, shoe was poorly maintained, owner deliberately used a contrasting color on the ends. But whatever the cause, it will look a lot better with some conditioning and a shine.
I hope someone with more knowledge can weigh in.
