a few small ones (one of the levi experts will need to come in with more details):
LVC has a slimmer fit aka the 1947 501's fit, has hidden rivets, has selvage denim.

I bought a pair of 514 and have a question about how they compare to 511.

The fit is very nice around the crotch but under the knee, I feel as if I could go with something a bit skinnier. Is the difference around the crotch area for 514 and 511 very different because I don't want to suffocate down there?

511s taper and are a skinnier cut, 514 is a slim straight cut, knee and hem opening should be the same whereas 511s, the hem opening is smaller than knee

they look like the new modern slimmer fit (lower rise and tapered legs) 501s with selvage. It has a lower case e also so I don't think it's LVC.

wtf? those are the 501's in "Premium Wash" that retailed for $98 bucks at levis. Made in Mexico. Soooo not worth $265 for "collectors item." Even LVC 1947's dont cost that much.

By the way, for all those in CA, I went to my local Mervyn's to check out the Levi's situation. All out of STF 501 jeans, small stock of preshrunk 501s, lots of 514, 505, and 569 at 30% off. I'm guessing it would be similar at other locations.

Actually, the 501s that J. Crew are selling are made in the U.S.A. I bought a pair for $185 two months ago at the Liqour Store location. They are basically an LVC 1947 501, rinsed, with all of the same details- coin pocket selvedge, hidden rivets, a slightly thinner selvedge line along the inseam. Main difference is there is a lower case "e" on the red tab. Not sure why their product description page lists the item as imported. I spoke to one Levi's exececutive last month when Lynn Downey was at Barney's Co-op in NYC, and they are indeed Cone denim, and Taylor Togs produced.
