Hi,
I'm starting a p/t job in retail in a mens boutique and need to get a presentable pair of dress shoes. The best shoes I own are a pair of Browns Couture in a brown but they are all damaged and scuffed.

Was wondering if anyone on the board could recommend where to look for a nice pair of shoes as a first good shoe. And also what color and cut I should get. I'm 25.

(I am not in the financial position to step up to a Lobb or an EG. Budget being Max $300.; and I can't go ebay as I need these ASAP.

Thanks!

I posted a similar question a few weeks ago and generally, the conclusion is that there is not much out there.

If you are looking for black shoes, Dacks has some old stock made in canada ones at one of their downtown stores that will give you good value. There is a recent thread on Dacks so search SF. Most of the new Dacks shoes are overpriced but some of the oldstock offers good value.

Another option is to buy some cheap leather soled dress shoes to make do until you can source better shoes.

The best deal on shoes in Toronto I saw in the past year was a pair of tan brown E Zegna perf captoes at the Browns outlet in Vaugh Mills for $260 - 25%. They weren't my size

The Holts Last call there had some AEs on sale last weekend. Worth a look if you're in the area. Does the Harry Rosen outlet at Heartland centre have any shoes?

I haven't been to the Harry Rosen outlet for a while but I recall there being some A-E's. The selection wasn't great and they were not terribly cheap.

I didn't even realize Holt Renfrew carried A-E's.

As for colour, I'd go with black, especially if you're going to be wearing these daily.

I too was surprised to see AEs there as I'd never seen them at Holts or Browns.

btw, I would go with dark brown for the same reason you suggest black.

The Harry Rosen outlet usually has AEs and the last time I was there they had quite a few pairs of Sanders shoes made in England. These seemed comparable to AEs at about the same price point.
