Having a decent supply of Charles Tyrwhitt dress shirts, I'd like to move my collection to the next level by getting some RTW dress shirts of a higher quality fabric and construction.

I'm looking for a double-cuff shirt ("French Cuff", as it were) in a fairly slim cut. No one will mistake me for a double-marathon runner or the next winner of the Tour De France, so a super-slim cut is not going to work, though.

I would prefer to stick with English brands, but if you have a different brand in mind you may be able to convince me.

Sorry for my ignorance...what does RTW mean?

I can tell you from experience CT shirts are not that great. the collars do not stay stiff at all and they shrink like crazy. their poplins wrinkle like mad as well. If you are looking for a slight upgrade but keeping around the same price point...actually maybe even lower I would hit up TM Lewin. They are very good shirts for the money. and they are classic jermyn street style as well. Hope that helps

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

How would you say these two brands stack up against each other?

Those Harvie and Hudson shirts look good. The prices are good, but the shipping to the US is almost as much as the shirt. Do the collar stays have their name printed on them? How do they compare to Hilditch and Key?

I love how these shirts look. Anything like this in the US so one doesn't need to worry about shipping costs?

I've heard displeasure with the CT shirts so I've been looking for alternatives.

I used to buy CT, now always TM Lewin. The collars on CT are awful and curl up, and the shoulders on the slim fit shirts are too small (whereas there is lots of added material round the waist).

TM Lewin are def. worth trying in my eyes

My only complaint with Lewin is that they offer no button cuffs. I really don't need more FC shirts.

That's funny. My complaint about Brooks Bros shirts is that not enough are FC!

Coles is definitely a step up, as is Hilditch & Key. You could also try New & Lingwood. A step up in price, too, unfortunately. Turnbull & Asser is legendary as the cream of the crop of British RTW, and legendarily expensive.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
