Hello,
I am having a bit of a hard time determining what the appropriate length of my tie should be. I gather it depends on the knot in which case I will mostly be using four-in-hand. Would it be better to err on the side of caution and just keep it at a standard 60 inches?
Also, does anyone have pictures of a burgundy/dark red grenadine fina or promoteo? The one on page 474 seems really bright and I'd prefer it was much darker. My preference is to get something exactly like the dark red on the website, but not sure if it will actually come out like that.
Just FYI, Hober's standard length is 57 inches, not 60. Proper tie length depends on lots of factors including height, body proportions, neck size, where your pants sit on your waist, type knot you tie, how close you like the front/back blades to be relative to each other... So there really is no straightforward answer except to experiment with a tie you already have. A 57 inch tie could work perfectly for someone who is, say, 5'10", or it could be 4 inches too short.
Lots and lots of pictures have been posted in this thread of burgundy grenadines. The "gallery" section on the Hober website is a good place to look also. And just a final note that from my experience and other anecdotal discussions in this thread, images on the Hober website seem to show silks as darker than they appear in real life. As I look at it right now on my monitor, the 'dark red grenadine fina GFT-2' looks pretty much spot on to how my 'burgundy grenadine fina GFT-3' looks in real life. So yes, as mentioned above, get swatches to be sure.
