I have had a couple of pairs of G&G's on order for a little while. I received an email from Dean saying my modified (last of it's kind?) Hughes would be ready soon but he wanted to post the Warwick so as to minimise further delay, especially given the factory holiday is looming...

I'll spare you the pics of the sole, which we all know about by now!

The facing appears a little lower and toe caps notably shorter on these Warwick's compared with older styles. This is great news for me as I think it moves G&G much closer in aesthetics to EG. These are now my favourite shoes combining everything I like about EG's classic proportions with G&G's outstanding finishing.

Here are a few comparative shots with a pair of older (2nd generation) G&G's...

Wow - that is a lovely shoe. The design is classic and very well executed.

Amazing. I love everything about them, from style, to design, to color, to quality. Perfect shoe.

the only thing i don't really like about the new version is the throat is longer or further towards the toe. i like the smaller, higher throat on the earlier version.

otherwise, superb.

I guess I'm the only one here who doesn't like galosh-style captoes or brogues.

You're not alone. Galoshes do nothing for me. But that aside, they still look pretty nice.

Can we just call them Balmorals? When I think of Galoshes, I think of overshoes.

But that's exactly what they look like with the galosh seam (which is the issue here, not the closed facings).

Bals is not specific enough to denote the brogueing that goes all the way from the vamp the heel. And they are called that because they do make the shoe look like there is another one top.

Maybe I misunderstood the term, but that is what I always refer to as a balmoral (i.e. the throat of the shoe runs all the way back to the heel). Though I know that the terms oxford (all closed-laced shoes) and balmoral are often used interchangeably.
