I am always interested in the original cost of shoes that appear in our thread. Today I found this relatively recent pair of NOS Florsheim shell 97626 in 11C, that were made in April 1992, listed on Ebay. (Not my listing.) The price tag appears to say $209.

The seller is asking $585, which proves my claim to my wife that shoes are a good investment.

That's a 22% premium over inflation-adjusted cost.

Modded 92604… welt and insole are coming apart. Weird. I applied some Barge rubber cement. Let’s see if that holds.

How does that even happen?
Not sure. I assume that the stitching popped when I installed the rubber half sole. Usually the remaining glue will hold fine, but that didn't happen here. Let's see if my DIY rubber cement glue job works.

I detail the process here:

I have down to about a 20-minute job total. It's really easy, actually.

New to me: Alden service boots in shell. Had to swap out the flat laces for Mad Dog Laces.

The Alden shell monks arrived a few days ago.

Just moisturizing and brushing with lasted trees in reshapes them pretty well.

The vamps on these go on forever.

Guys, keep a close eye on the auctions for things on your watchlist, because sometimes the other watchers take their eye off the ball and forget to show up right at the end.

Vintage American made Florsheim LWBs 97625s.

Dyed navy by award winning patina artist Alberto Suastez. Then rebuilt by Tony Wyatt with a rubber Vibram sole and blue welt and outsole stitching. To make sure the blue really shows, I matched with 3mm paracord from Mad Dog Laces .

I met Tony and Tobias Crislip at the recent Stitchdown Boot Camp in NYC. Both are great people to hang out with. I've known them both for years especially since we chat through these shoe groups.

If anyone is looking for a Tudor Pelagos homage, look no further than San Martin. The brand executes very well and at a higher quality than their price point. Keeping the blue theme.
