Boots for Days!

Chippewa

Chippewa isn’t the type of brand we usually talk about on StyleForum: the boots are functional, but at the end of the day they’re not close what we consider fashion. The lasts are clunky, the leather is meh and the finishing is rugged – befitting of a boot designed to actually be worn by construction workers, to be fair. But Chippewa has some tricks up its sleeve, and premiered a surprisingly good heritage line a year ago. The highlight is, without a doubt, their version of a classic military service boot, which is much more Viberg than L. L. Bean. What do you think?

Wolverine

Just like Chippewa, Wolverine is a brand that produces a lot of functional boots that are long on form and short on function and has decided to branch out to the fashion market. Their offering is their 1000 mile collection: a group of Made in America boots, based on a classic mile (known to last for a 1,000 miles walking), and produced in varying shades of Horween chromexcel leather. Production issues a side – some people don’t like wrinkling – the boots are well priced and a good intro into the high-end of the marketplace.

Viberg

And here we are at the top of the mountaintop of rugged boots: Viberg. Viberg is a Canadian brand that produces high quality boots the old fashioned way. The materials are topnotch, the construction is literally bulletproof (show me a pair of fashion boots that can stand up to inches of water without a leak – I dare you) and the styling and design is surprisingly killer. The credibility of the best with the lasts of the most fashionable. It’s a match made in heaven (or Canada).
