^are you serious? There is a good inch gap, there is no way they would stretch to the point where the two sides would touch.

I wouldn't really say that's true. It all depends on how you walk and how tight you tie them.. I've seen pairs easily stretch to close that gap over time

congrats advan031 on your captoes. those who are thinking about it, hesitate no more. easily the most versatile Alden boot out there and my favourite pair needless to say. from a few days back....

No. When I bought mine, they had half the gap you did and even with the speed hooks, I can't close the gap a year later.

I have had mine for over two years and there has been very little change in that area of the boot. You'd have to lace the sh*t out of the boots to make the uppers stretch that much. I'd think you'd end up breaking the cotton laces that alden uses before you'd get them to stretch out.

Quick bit of advice needed... I own a pare of brown calf LWB and a pair of cigar shell LWB. I have a chance to pick up a pair of dark brown shell Crockett and Jones made for RL Marlow short wing tips for a real nice price ($690 tax included). Would this be a redundant purchase? Should I wait and pick up a pair of whiskey or ravello LWB? Or maybe a ravello wt boot? This will have to be the last pair I purchase for a while (maybe the year). I am a huge long wing aficionado

Wow Tom those look fantastic. How is the workmanship? I know nothing will be quite as 'tight' as the origional Alden built, but are you happy with the result?
are those inlined? The creasing is so defined...

B.Nelson did a great job and I'm very happy with the results.

They are the stock #986, lined. Basically my beater shoe so they've been through a lot.

I've been contemplating selling my C&J RL Marlows and getting Cigar or Ravello LWBs instead. The Ravello wingtip boots or Cigar Indy are very tempting as well. Damn you SF
