The jcrew PCT are a bit more snug, but the same size works for me. I wear them with regular socks though, so you might want to go down half size.

Sorry, you wear the PCT in the same size as the Wolverine 1K? And I'm assuming you mean size up instead of size down. I would rather err on the side of a touch big, than a touch snug. I can get thicker socks (plan on wearing them more so in the colder months anyway) but not smaller feet.

Wondering if someone can compare the Jcrew #8 cap toe boot to the wolverine 1K in terms of sizing. Everyone says that it fits a little bit more snug. I think I am more of a 12D+/ 12E TTS. I have the 1K in size 12D, and its big overall. I can wear it with two pairs of wools socks, and its nice and comfy then. I would want to wear the Jcrew PCB with a pair of wool socks/boot socks. Should I still size down to 11.5D, or stick with 12D, despite being on the barrie? I know normally the barrie last should size down .5, but I want to wear boot socks, and I hear barrie boots fit snug.

I wear the same size in all 3 . Barrie 8D, Wolverine 8, and Wolverine AE Shell 8. If you want to wear thick socks go 8.5D Barrie.

sorry, they are dressier boots. Thought you'll wear them with regular socks in which case you should size down. But yeah if you're planning to wear them with thick wool socks, you will have to go half size up or more. Do remember, shell doesn't breath well. You might feel warm/comfortable with regular socks.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. My foot has PLENTY of room all around in the CXL 1K's in size 12D, and works well with thick socks. So i'll look at getting the Jcrew in 12D then, instead of 11.5. Again, really appreciate it.

Also, thanks for the note on the warmth of shell. I have one pair of shells already, and while they are nice, they still need wool socks for a big chunk of the year for me. From December to March its pretty much always below 0 F, so wool socks never leave my feet haha.

If for both business and casual wear, I would suggest the black shell NST or monochromatic saddle. These two models can pull double duty, although the NST, for me, would not be worn with a suit. As for the other models you mentioned, i personally put the 2146 in the business only category and the chukka on

Commando in the casual only category. All are good models.

I'm right there with ya seven.  The chukka on commando would be for casual wintery/wet weather.  The black monochromatic saddle is likely my next Alden.  Although, I am quite tempted by the BB snuff suede tassels which are on sale right now for 25% off.

The 993 (black shell mono saddle) is a seldom mentioned - almost never seen (at least on the thread) - stock model. It and the 994 are probably the sleekest Barrie models Alden makes (flat welt, 270 welt, single leather). When I wear mine (993 and 994) I many times get favorable comments.
