I wonder if the Barrie last is most desirable (according to retailers) because people tend to genuinely prefer it, or because it is the most common in the first place, and so people are familiar with it and know their size well.

I would also venture a guess that it is popular as a first shoe by those moving into Goodyear-welted footwear due to it's inherent roominess.

People who are accustomed to cheaper foam filled shoes that are getting their first pair of Goodyear-welted ones generally have to get used to the initial rigidity and somewhat constrictive feel. Also, most lower quality shoe manufacturers use a very rounded "average" shaped last to ensure a fit for the masses, and they then depend on the foam to take up the slack and form to the foot.

The Barrie would likely be the most "normal" feeling shoe to first-time buyers who aren't used to different feeling/fitting lasts.

First, I want to say sorry for bringing this up again - but does anyone know where you can get a clear|natural edge trim finish? i'm going to try a DIY natural edge trim on a old pair of AEs.

Also if anyone has a tutorial on a good approach - that woudl be great (tried to find it by searching but there are way too many post to go through)

thanks

nephew,
nice combo
welcome to marcoliani club-they are addictive

Thanks. I got two pairs to ensure happiness and fit before spending an embarrassing amount of money on socks.

Here's my second pair. With a pair of AE Highway 1 driving mocs. I will wear and post Alden's tomorrow! :)

I think I have asked this before, but what is the best place (either brick and mortar or online) to find a wide variety of Marcoliani for sale?

What other socks do you guys recommend, and where can I buy them? I like my J Crew collection but its time for an upgrade.

Factory seconds unlined PTB's arrived and I found the flaw. It's on the inside of the left shoe .. I haven't taken it out to see it in natural light, but I don't think it's terrible. However, I'm not sure what this stain will look like as the color begins to lighten from exposure.

Any thoughts before I commit to keeping them?
