Interesting. 2 different opinions :) but you're right. The SLIM def feels a bit tight when I move around. Just not sure if CONT looks too sloppy.

Agreed. I found that the difference between the slim and contemporary isn't huge but having a bit more mobility is nice. I wear slim pants and can't wear a slim jacket but it just feels a bit more restrictive. Contemporary drapes just as well but I have a little more space when moving.

Personally I think it's fine.

I also think length is fine. It covers the seat and looks about right by the hands. It's a bit more trendy to be on the short side, and while I would never recommend going all in on a suiting trend, leaning SLIGHTLY that way isn't a bad thing.

Not just buttoning point, but overall length, too short. Agree w/ @JTrent82 you need a Reg at minimum for appropriate length.

Also, while they don't appear to be pulling when viewed from the front, when looking at the back, it looks like they need let out around the midsection.

I'm not sure honestly on the length because of the scrunch. I can see about an inch of length lost due to not having proper drape.

ordered Contemporary jacket and matching contemporary pants as I was worried that slimmer pants will look disproportionate compared to the jacket

does it?

Not at all. This isn't like banana republic "boxy" regular and then a slim. Contemporary is already slim by most industry standards. Honestly I could wear a slim but I have a wider back/chest compared to waist and the slim just felt slightly too contrictive when moving. It draped nearly the same when just standing.

My legs have always been on the tinner side (I don't skip leg day by the way) but it's a familial thing. And I HATE boxy pants.

To be fair I've never tried their contemporary pants so they may be like the jackets where there isn't much difference.

Thank you for your feedback!

I have the same issue. I have barrel chest so I am 44R and my pants 33… so I am happy SM will try to work with you on pants as 6 inch drop will be still too much for me

contemporary looked good on me not too boxy. Perhaps same with their jacket were it is not too boxy and just allows more room?
I too did not bother to order slim and then deal with returns

I think this is probably not going to be a popular opinion but I think the contemporary pants are too slim, at least in the small waist sizes. The 30" slim trousers have a 7" hem opening and the Neo contemporary suit trousers now have a 7.5" hem opening (used to be 7.75"). The trend for some manufacturers over the past few years has been to return to a more relaxed trouser silhouette. Would love either an 8" hem opening or enough fabric in the seam inlays to let the trousers out.

Yes, I can get MTO but the value proposition is not there for me.

I'd agree with you. I have to tailor the waist in on my pants but I still find the legs to be a little tight around the thighs. Would be nice to get more space to move in.

sounds like contemporary is good enough for most legs unless your legs are more on skinny side then slim is a good option

In the size 32, there is only an inch difference in the hips between slim and contemporary. So they basically both fit the same on the top. People with bigger thighs need more than an extra inch in the hips. The difference between the two fits is pretty negligible especially considering factory tolerances.

I'd love to see a relaxed fit trouser. They seem to be willing to experiment in so many other areas, why not here?

Right? They have to be developing a new pattern. It's in need of an update for regular and high rise variants.

I can't imagine anyone sitting or walking in their slim fit trousers..and aesthetically, if you care at all about drape, not sure I have seen anyone pulling them off
Every now and then someone posts here saying that their slim trousers are way too baggy and need to be even slimmer, but have never seen photos from said people.

Understood. Good points. I guess contemporary seems like the safest best. It's really the back and chest that's slightly wider
