The label is actually made by cheap Indian labor in Naples.

Everyone in the know are clear that the Chinese have long moved on to outsourcing their menial work.

This is not right. The quality of Polo has been slipping for years. They are not even close to the best in my opinion.......

With the obvious difference being that ebay is better.

When has RL regular line ever been considered something top notch? Why are you shocked it is made in China... it's nothing special that stands out. RLPL and RPBL maybe... This is like being shocked Tommy Hilfiger makes ****** suits. And I am pretty sure nothing RLPL is made in China...

Well, there's also the fact that they make alot of stuff for us like pharmaceutical drugs.. so it's not like there's no concept of QC over there just because it's made in China. Also.. many foreign companies actually have a huge involvment in the manufacturing process and QA to make sure that the products end up being pretty decent despite the hated "made in China" label.

Yup. And things that are "handmade in NYC" by some labels are also using immigrant labor on small wages. Not to say that it's not good or that their situation isn't better than some of the labor camps back in SE Asia. But as with most things, not everything is black and white. P.S. Someone is selling a medium RLPL shirt that's made in China right now in B&S.. so yes, there's PL made in China a well (in fact, most of the women's RLPL is made in China from what others have said)

This is just stupid, why assume that just because its made in China it has to be some Dickensian sweatshop? I understand annoyance with brands who move their production to China then charge the same price if you can prove the old "made in x" is better quality as the "made in China", but that's usually not the case.

Or they were 70% constructed by Chinese in China and then finished in Italy. There are high end brands that sell "Made in HK" as if it was better, though in reality the majority of the construction took place in China, then it was shipped across the border to be finished in HK, but its allowed to avoid the China tag.

There are very few things that aren't made in China these days and to assume that made in China somehow automatically means its going to be inferior is just downright stupid. I would be more surprised if a brand like RL WASN'T made in China.

Thanks for regurgitating everything that has already been said, really.

Anyway, nobody (well most non-asian) on this board including myself would continue to buy **** that was originally made elsewhere having shifted production to china so noble comments aside the reality is just that. Accept it, move on and have a drink.

It's quite possible that the poster might be referring to "Chaps" by Ralph Lauren, a crappy RL brand you can find at the bay, (I think Ralph just licensed his name out) that I believe thankfully for our neighbors to the south doesn't exist in the US. It's like Lauren by Ralph Lauren, maybe even worse.

This isn't like a new phenomenon. RL has been farming their stuff from Chaps upwards for more than a decade.

first of all, im chinese.

imo, made is china is okay if decent quality comes with the moola charged for the item. RL made in italy and UK are generally always good. RL made in eastern european countries and elsewhere are passable, although ive had some bad experience with outwear. made in china is a hit or miss and when its a miss the item is total shxt! a $500 item can fall apart like u bought it forever21.

im kinda disappointed that RL stuff and many other brands are outsourcing more and more of their production. i really think there is a difference in quality. QC maybe?

Some RLPL items (for instance several types of sweaters) are made in china, of "italian yarn".
