If you're married you might get divorced, it's true for any of the married guys here including you.

My point, again, is that I did not go into it expecting divorce or planning for the possibilty. Of course I might. All sorts of things might happen. But I do not expect it, and intend to work against any such eventuality.

That's the whole point, a pre-nup is like insurance. Nobody buys insurance expecting something bad to happen. If someone is marrying to keep a hot gold digger around, then maybe they'll expect to get divorced. But a marriage without love and respect is just a sheet of paper anyways.

You buy insurance for contingencies outside your control that have enough of a probablity of happening that makes insurance rational from a cost perspective.

I think it makes no sense to treat divorce -- which is solely the product of human agency -- the same way.

I'm going to marry a scion of the New England leisure class. Hopefully her name will be Duffy or Leslie.

I am just waiting for someone to switch this to " I am going to marry a man, hopefully his name will be..." I think part of the reason so many people takes shots as conne is he sets himself up for hem. regardless of my feelings on this matter (not conne, the thread topic) which are slightly complex and conflicting, the anti-marriage lot are coming across as a rather cold and unromantic. I somehow feel none of them will have to worry about the finer details of getting married and married life.

I think there must still be some money in the old east cost families. I know some that still live in some style, and certainly don't have what it takes to work for money and haven't for some generations apparently.
