Not style related but I always laughed that Greenwich, Ct is pronounced "grenn-itch"..but Greenwich,NY is pronounced "green-witch".

Also, Cairo,NY is "care-o".

I was looking at a Longines watch and the woman said ..."Long-ga-nay".

And Houston Street in NYC is pronounced "How-sten." The list goes on.

I'm confused (which is not unusual). I have never heard the name Isaia spoken by an Italian, but I would have thought it was ...

Ee-sah-ee-yah ..which may sound more like Ee-sa-yah at real life speed.

That is, the final i and a in practice combine to form a eeyah sound.

If, instead, the middle i combines with the a before it to form a dipthong, then the final a would be said with a hiatus (as a sound on its own - so it would be three syllables ...Ee-sigh-ah.

I can't see how it could be Ee-sai-ee-yah.

Well I reckon that settles it! Four syllables it is.

But the consensus seems to be that the second syllable is "uh" than "eye" , which fits with it being four syllables.
