So, something that I don't think has been done for a while, but I think it may be time

This is the OFFICIAL No Purchase Club for OCTOBER 2014

Are you a clothing whore? Are you weak with money? Do you need some help to be strong? Well this is your chance!

The rules are simple. By signing up here, you agree to the following terms:

1) You will spend not one penny for the entire month on any clothing or clothing-related item(s) for yourself.

2) You will perform some form of maintenance on your clothes/shoes (sewing buttons, polishing shoes, etc)

3) If you sign up before October 4, 2014* you may allow yourself an emergency fund of $100 and no more. The emergency fund is to be used only in the event of a true emergency; a funeral, wedding, or some socks/underwear, etc

4) Should you fall and make a purchase you must report the purchase here. You will then resume the challenge to the end of the month. No need to report an emergency purchase. At the end of the month, we'll do an official score card.

NOTE: If you sign up October 4 or later, you are allowed NO emergency fund at all.

I will tabulate the official list of participants on October 4, 2014.

At any time during the month, should you feel weak, use this thread so others may help talk you out of a purchase (well, in theory).

Take the vows. Commit yourself to a 30 day break from spending. Will you do it?

Sign-ups begin today but the challenge will begin October 3, 2014 and run to October 31, 2014 at midnight.

Oh man, I am so in. September was a glorious cavalcade of impoverishment: four new sport coats, two new pairs of trousers, two new shirts, and a good deal of tailoring for all of those items and more besides. Time to catch my breath and let my bank account recuperate.

Question: if the invoice for the group MTO Eagle County boots from Allen Edmonds arrives during October, am I dq'ed, or can I categorize those as a prior purchase?

Nice! Welcome to the club! September has been, and continues to be, a big month for me as well. Need to enjoy what I have.

And, the lady friend's birthday is coming up in Nov., and vacation coming up, so got to save a bit!

Now, a note regarding PREVIOUS OBLIGATIONS:

If you have a previous obligation, it is permitted to finish payment thereof. As supposed gentlemen, I only think it is fair to honor our current commitments.

Glad to see some reinforcements. I've got plenty of new stuff to incorporate into my fall wardrobe before considering any further purchases. From now on, I think that except in the case of emergencies, I'm imposing a "5 times" rule on myself: every item in my wardrobe needs to have been worn at least five times or discarded before I purchase anything new.
