So I got a pair of the regular ralf veggie indigo from winning a raffle at the denimbar party and have just gotten around to start wearing them. I know they shrink alot, so I got them true to size and with a 34 inseam. my question is should I soak them down while they're newish or wear them a little large, hem them down and never wash. Any one have any experience, opinions?

i think you got it backwards. you should have gotten them a size down and worn them tight until they loosened up, without hemming it, so that when you finally washed, it would go back to being the original fit, and THEN you hem it

Did you really need your own thread when there are 2 threads devoted to this?

If they're unsanforized (i don't think any nudies are such) then soak before you ever wear them. If they're sanforized (your jeans) then there is no point. As far as the hem shrinking maybe an inch like ALL JEANS, you can do the method i and others reccomend every time this comes up: after soaking, while still wet/damp, pull on the legs real good for a bit to preserve or even lengthen them. You can just stand on the waist and pull the legs if you want. The overall fit will not become smaller besides just going back to how they were pre-stretch.

I'm pretty sure all nudies are sanforized and won't shrink any with the possible exception of the Masa since they were a special edition but even those may be.

Does nudie do a lot of unsanforized stuff now or something? Seems kinda strange since they're probably confusing their customer base. There is a jeans flow chart someone made here awhile back.

Are your jeans sanforized?
-Yes (soak then wear until dirty/smelly, then wash)
- No (wear until dirty/smelly, then wash)

Repeat the process.

yeah they are dead stock and unsanforized, the cut is okay but the color of the indigo is like nothing I have ever seen. I know about regular nudies but this denim is different and i heard shrinks alot, thats why I was asking the question.

Good ****, soaking is the new will-I-die-if-I-wash-my-jeans-before-the-first-two-years. Die in plane crashes.

I was lucky enough to stumble on a veggie pair and they are sweet...

Yes they do shrink 1.5" to 2"

So do NOT hem. Wear them as normal until they stretch out / get too stinky / get nice fades. Whichever comes first and is unbearable. Once they are at a desired level of wear (at least let some of the indigo rub off) get them ready for a wash and let the magic happen.

Make no mistake, they are meant to be washed. These jeans undergo some mystical denim-fairy transformation in the washing machine. The hazy blue you see now gives way to an intense and rich indigo blueness. It is organic yet vivid and something I have not seen duplicated anywhere else.

If they stretch back out, just wash em again.
