That side lace is quite interesting.

I'm a huge fan of monk straps, and that shoe pretty much replaces the buckle with lacing. I still prefer a traditional monk strap, but neat concept none the less.

That suede bal. is also pretty nice - love the stitching detail and the orange lining.

Who are the makers of these shoes? They strike me as Santoni offerings, by the orange sock.

From the lasts and skins and antiquing, it's obvious Santoni could make great shoes, but the first are just freakish and the second really suffer from association. They're not bad, but I can think of a few dozen suede shoes in existence I'd rather spend money on.

The leather, finish, last and construction are first-rated for the first shoe. But I just can't get past the inter-species breeding of monk strap and side-lacing. Freakish is the correct word to describ it.

I really like the first pair. Side laceups usually look like some kind of mutant oxford, but I really like the mutant monkstrap concept. Best looking side laceups I've seen. I might even pay Santoni prices for them!

The shameless sole stitching only encourages thoughts of Frankenstein.

On the first pair, the soles are cut close to the uppers and the stitching is much more discrete than other shoes I've seen. I like them. Now, on the second pair the stitching is too pronounced for my tastes.
