Is the Michael Kors "Michael" line that company's lesser quality line? Is "Michael" to Michael Kors like "Lauren" to Ralph Lauren or "Joe" to Joseoph Abboud? Or is "Michael" just more youthful, brash, bold, trendy, etc? One of our Macy's has "Michael" navy blazers reduced to a fairly low price and when I asked the salesman this question all he did was keep praising the designer. Later he mentioned how low the price is for Michael Kors and I managed to say that's not my main concern [I'd only consider the item at this low price, in this case, but I'm very interested in quality and longevity].

I don't know any of this for sure but I'm assuming it is. Btw I'm not sure is Lauren by ralph lauren mens wear at least is still under the ralph lauren parent umbrella anymore (i might be mixing this up with Chaps). The reason these are priced lower is because of where they are made and fabrics that are used, i read somewhere that companies actually will pay some designers to use their name but the designer will have no control over the manufacture of the product.

Not really. It is the mid range one. You have Kors by Michael Kors which has horrendous quality and design. Michael by Michael Kors is the mid range one. They have nice design for clothing and accessories but, the quality of the materials and the sewing is absolutely inconsistent. The final and hardest to find is Michael Kors. While the other 2 labels are made in China, Thailand, etc.. this one is made in Italy. The quality is a little better (have more finishing) than the 'Michael' label but, it is not worth the price. In short, Michael Kors is pretty much a brand that relies on marketing and celebrities to make a name for itself.

It's not exactly in the same league as most luxury brands so there's no comparison with say a suit made in Savile Row.

No, I was never considering Michael Kors in that league (nor do the company's top brass want to resemble Savile Row tailors, I imagine....) Just wanted to know where "Michael" fits in, in the sheme of the company's products and you've answered it.
