Can't say anything about that shirt, but generally J. Crew doesn't fit all that well, at least not for SF members. If you e-mail them they'll send you sizing charts for their stuff. Their quality varies. I personally like their sweaters even if they're not very slim because they're relatively inexpensive and last forever. Their shirts, unfortunately, @artishard I've never been impressed with J. Crew's wool outerwear, unfortunately...

I like it very much, but I don't know if it's worth the $350 it costs.

Can anyone comment on the quality/fit difference between the jcrew.com Merino v-neck sweaters and the factory store Merino v-neck sweaters?

^^^ I don't know about the sweaters, but in general I find their factory stuff to not be too different from the regular stuff. There are variations in fit, but for the most part it's not a major difference. The factory clothing does seem to lack some of the small details that their regular clothing has (i.e. chambray shirt lining etc), but I've never had an issue with that.

Thanks for the input. I take it I should probably wait for it to go on sale or something. When you say it doesn't fit all that well, do you mean it's sort of boxy? I got the impression from their photos that the stuff was slim fit, but I guess not. Now to find a fitted alternative to that shirt...

My JC experience has been the complete opposite. The JC sweaters I've had fit poorly and pilled like nobody's business. On the other hand, while the shirts fit fairly poorly, they're at least decent quality and there's always a good assortment of patterns.

Also, I got the JC wool peacoat from FW09 - it actually fits snugly and the wool is good.

Perhaps it depends on the sweater material. I've had a merino sweater for 4 years, it's held up well, no pilling. But the one from 2 years ago isn't quite as good, it's had a small amount of pilling.

I don't have any experience with their lambswool, cashmere, or cotton sweaters. I avoid their wool blends, since those generally use acrylic, and that won't hold up well.

So their shirts are more of a relaxed, boxy fit? Including the denim utility shirt? I always got the impression they were slim fitting from the model pics but I suppose those are pinned.

The shirt is not boxy. It may fit other people different but I found the length to be right and the overall fit good. The shirt was not made to be supper fitted if that is what you're looking for, but I would not say its boxy and ill fitting.

i have that woodland jacket. The length is about right for your height, not too long or too short. Get it in an xs. A nice alternative to the barbour bedale jacket.

How does it fit on someone with an average athletic/muscular build? Broad shoulders, v-taper and narrow waist? I'm getting the feeling that some people complaining about the fit are the slimmer type?
