Done with classes, finally time for a long run. 2.8 miles in 20 minutes.

Allergies stinging my sweaty eyes. Good weather though. Very good weather.

not really. I havent really been eyeing any races at all coming up, but my fitness is getting good. I may take a look at the local race calendars and see if i can do a 5k sometime this month or next.

Ive never ran a race on the track...i think alot of running your best 5k would come down whether there are people in the race to pace off or help pull you to a PR.

Had a great long run/workout today:
10 miles at 7:30 pace, then I dropped down to marathon pace for the last 11 miles. Everything felt good and I ran on the last half of the San Diego marathon course.

Saturday - TNFEC 50 Mile Race - 10:46:16.

Outside of the fact that I ran 52.75 miles (went off course at one point and then did a poor job of running the meridian) it was a very good race. Besides the 2 massive climbs (and descents) at the end I was able to maintain a solid pace even at the end of the race, which I think was due in large part to sticking with my fluid and Gu plan of about 16-20oz an hour of water (with an endurolyte) and 2 Gu's an hour. Had accelerade, some pizza and Red Bull at the aid stations where my crew had access which was also a big help. In addition, my non running time was only abour 12 minues total, which is good considering there were aid stations about every 6 miles on the course. Sitting at my desk today I feel 95%.

The ~15,000 feet of elevation change coupled with the rocky terrain really take a toll on one's ability to get into a good rhythm on the course, but overall I had a great time. I'm looking forward to DC 4 weeks from now.

Below are my splits for those that are interested.

Nice job everyone!

Well....I survived.
I am completely bed bound for now. The surgery did not go as expected.
It was supposed to be at most a 2.5 hr surgery, but went 5 hrs due to some very unexpected findings in the joint.
Apparently once they sawed off the two bone beaks in the front of the joint, they got a view of the "loose body" which wasnt loose, and wasnt dead. It was also much larger than they had thought from the scans.
With that said, they went into the hole that the body had come from (where the bone marrow had begun to die off) and fractured the entire area.
Then they were able to use these cool micro screws that disolve over a year to attach the "loose body" to the top of the hole, thus trapping the blood clot and stem cells that will re-grow the bone marrow. Apparently the "loose body" was about the size of a quarter and comprised of both bone and cartillage.
So, this is kind of a best case scenario + as the transplant would have been very risky and would not have been appropriate as this was all assumed to be dead tissue, but it was all alive!
The only down side is this was such a large area that they had to open the entire front of my foot open and could not do it all with a scope, and they had to intabate me after an hour.
Having a femoral nerve block wear off sucks!!!!
So, now I move on to recover and hopefully return to running in a few months with a whole new ankle!

Get well soon pal.

Sunday had a hockey game, then took my kids for an 8 mile run. Was so nice out and I figured it'd be a great Mom's day gift for my wife to take the kids out for a bit.
