If I do it (and I'm not decided), it'll be the *pose* I'll be going for - or the composition of the photo, rather than the clothes or the fit. I don't think I'd be able to properly emulate somebody else's look in that manner.

However, I would think "what would N do?" and maybe use that as my style inspiration, and try and copy his photo / pose as much as I could. Like Don did. He wasn't copying Crusty's clothes, just his pose.

"Copy the Pose, Not the Clothes!"

[...] I think I'll be going for Pingson -- lots of excellent material in a conservative business vein which suits my wardrobe.

Speaking of whom, where is @Pingson? I miss his fits.

Holdfast, my interest is piqued as to why you reacted so strongly (for you) to this challenge. it's an opportunity to be silly.

I'm sure you're right with that last sentence, but there's silly & funny and just silly. If it's funny for others, kudos to them and I hope they enjoy the challenge. It's all cool. Just not for me.

Recursive DTO.

Many years ago, there was a WAYWRN poster called DTO who copied some of Phat Guido's outfits 100%. IIRC at one point it reached the obsessiveness of going into Lee Baron and ordering whatever PG ordered! Or maybe that was another poster as well. If it really did happen more than once, that really IS depressing! But you should know this, it happened during your time on the board, I'm sure.

It's been backronymed by some into "Doing The Other", though I think it's more elegant to associate the the acronym with the concept of copying simply by voicing it as "ditto-ing" instead of "D-T-O-ing".

Lol. I remember that poster.

No. What is scary is that Phat Guido freaked out and actually got angry at DTO and posted, angry, expletive filled screeds (I forget the word he liked to use). In other words, a guy who liked to post pictures of himself wearing fancy clothes on the internet for people to admire got angry when another guy admired the clothing he posted so copied it and posted pictures of himself on the internet. And the really sick thing is that DTO apologized as if he had done something horrible instead of just saying "don't be a jackass"

Poor el guapo wongo. Hannah Montana was wearing his jeans
