Well, can't blame a dude for loving his ladies a bit spicy!

But really, what I missed out really isn't as costly as you think and isn't that out of the world too.

The Prada dumbo shoes was like 100 plus bucks brand new. The Lobb was like 200 plus I think, used but in good shape. When you wear them, you won't look like wearing pimp shoes. I saw a pair of red stingray shoes before though. My size but wow, such a Judy Garland moment. I passed and I think it will never sell. But since then, I've been looking for a nice pair of stingray shoes but the prices are so out there.

The clock was located in Amsterdam. So I left for the weekend, and every couple of hours the same bidder came back and increased his bid by $100, until it got to $1700 and then quit. Its a nice clock, paid too much for it, but I long but fogotten the price.

Its not the worst. Several times I've waited until the last few minutes, and did something else while waiting for the last 10 seconds to arrive to place my bid, and got too involve in the other thing until the auction had ended, at a much lower price than I was planning to bid.

Something similar happened to me. I put in an early bid like you did and the price was run up right to my max. I paid up as I was obligated to do, but it left me more aware of the eBay nonsense that can occur.

There was definitely something going on there. As the bids go in incrementally, your auto bid shows up. By putting in your max at 1700.99, when the bidder finally got to 1700 and your auto bid went to 1700.99, (or 1700.50, an amount that differed from the previous increments) it revealed to the bidder that he was close to your max bid. It's a way of fishing out what your max bid could be.

It doesn't happen this way all the time, but it's possible if you have an unethical seller.

Sometimes they mess up and overbid and will then try to cancel their bid. Now who's kidding who here? A person that bids in 100 dollar increments, showing that he is interested in making the purchase, and then cancels when he gets the top bid? I'll call BS every time.

On another note, I thought that if you were the second highest bidder because the highest bidder canceled, that you had the OPTION of making the deal. I didn't think you were obligated to the seller, having not won the auction.

Ebay can be a pain sometimes.

I thought (out loud): JHC. Where is Vanna White when a dude has a kilo of dead presidents burning a hole in his green Hermes breast wallet?

I've had a couple different interesting happenings during my ebay experiences.

Recently I was outbid on a very nice Longines watch...$5 over my max bid, though who knows what the buyer's max bid was. It went for $250. Oh well. I'm still on the lookout for a nice vintage Heuer, IWC or Longines in the sub $1000 area. Obviously, not an easy task.

Just a few days ago I won a $180 big on a pair of NIB brown cap-toed semi brogued Bruno Maglis. Sure, they're not C&J, but they were $500 MSRP. I'm considering it a steal. Someone tried to come in and snipe at the last second, but they only increased the bid by $5. I won this round.

I once sold a rather useless laptop to a fellow in the Czech Republic for close to $200. The screen no longer worked, and I tried to take it apart to repair and failed miserably. I included all of these details in the auction. I only paid $350 for it a year and a half prior on ebay.

: Saved searches are an absolute necessity when looking for rare/semi-rare items. You get an email from ebay as soon as an item is posted that meets your specified search parameters. While you may not think this is important, because most auctions are 5 days or more, it is very important when an item is put up as a Buy it Now at an attractive price. If such an item is put up, you will see it before others since you have it under your saved search.

Saved searches are essential, but Ebay varies the time that they send out the saved-search emails to various people. Mine come around 11 AM every day, and by the time I get them, the best BIN deals have often been snapped up by people who get theirs earlier in the day. I've looked in all my account settings, but haven't found a way to get the emails earlier in the day.

Saved searches are always too late. The only way to do E-Bay right is to do it all day long, or get very lucky. I freely admit that I have refreshed E-Bay probably 200-300 times a day while hunting for something very particular (not clothes).

I have wondered if there is a good service for helping you find things...something that will notify you the second something is listed. I had Auctivia installed once, and it was also too late quite often.

Satan is now a poster on FNB. He is quite hilarious. Who would have known The Prince of Darkness would have such a great sense of humor! Of course, he is welcomed with open arms by he denizens of douchebaggery.

Spoo/Mike... What WERE you boys searching for? The only thing worth refreshing that much every day is your profile on Match.com.

I did a lot of ebay in the 2000-2005 period, generally did very well, and agree completely with the no bidding, only sniping advice. Money spent I regarded more on the whole than for individual items. I didn't think too much about the value, just eyeballed the action and the current bid and put in a crooked number that wouldn't kill me. Overpaid here and there but on the whole got good value for dollars spent. I was under the impression that ebay was dead these days but this thread suggests otherwise.

Also I agree with Boss, PT was shilled on that clock. Glad he's not bent about it.

Don't get all passionate in the bidding. When ebay's a casino the house always wins.

That's quite an interesting view and I completely agree with you on that the house always wins.

That's why I have never been a big fan of ebay. But at times well you might just find that one of a kind item and get carried away.
