Stop making consecutive posts to artificially inflate your post count. At the relevant time, I had twice as many posts as you did, Beta.

you just made my day
My post count isn't the point and it's irrelevant. It's hilarious that someone with >10 posts (0.21/day) think he's a "valued member and regular contributor." (fyi which was the point if you couldn't figure it out) It doesn't matter if I had 1 post and you had 8, you're still a chode who isn't an "established poster."

Anyways, back to the discussion/thread guys.

I live in Toronto too and while I've yet to buy a suit there I checked out Tom's Place in Kensington market and it's a good place to get good deals on great suits and in your price range. Very helpful staff too that makes you feel comfortable.

You might want to check with Harry Rosen and see when the samuelsohn trunk show is. Sometimes they run pretty good deals and Samuelsohn is one of the best bang for your buck suits that you can get imo.

+1 Congrats on the job! If I were you I would avoid anything "flashy" and obviously expensive in order to avoid unnecessary and potentially uncomfortable conversations/remarks about the lavish lifestyle of ibankers while the economy is crashing. Plus, I think that going ahead, banks will encourage a significantly more conservative presentation. Btw, how do you feel about entering the most resented profession in America?

How many "I'm a new investment banker and I need advice" threads do we need? It seems like once a week we get a new thread on this same topic. If you work at an investment bank and you don't need to wear a suit every day then something is seriously wrong with that. I hope to God Blankfein isn't letting rookies just out of school walk around without a suit on every day. If so, then the damn stock deserves to go in the toilet.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys. I did a lot research about this topic on the forums the last few days so I have a pretty good idea of where to start.

Not bad at all since most of the resentment is due to ignorance and misunderstanding of how the financial sector operates. Most people don't understand the investment banking divisions of banks haven't contributed much to the financial crisis since all they do is advisory. They just categorize everyone working in the financial industry in a single group to hate on.

+1

the knowledge most people hold about the financial industry is that somewhere there are 'toxic assets' bought with money earned by 'greed' and 'dishonesty'. If only it were that simple.

Most banks have adopted some form of business casual.

Depends on if you have to meet with clients. This is common in the IB world.
