well, there should be quite a few things to do......mainly depends on the time of year (of course) - birding in σκαλα καλλονι - hot springs/spa - μολιβος, a touristy spot but if the weather is cooporating drive will be nice, although a long drive - a little bit of history, along the shore in αχλαδερη is where aristotle did the first ecological experiments. there's a restaurant there serves good fish. good deal too. within the city/near the city: - if you want to see the castle to satisfy your curiosity, go ahead, but it's ~10eur, i don't think it's worth it. - amphitheater, but it was closed for a long time (budget cuts, and the economy is worse now.....but you can always hop the gate, don't mind the barking dogs, they're on leashes) - beaches along the road to/from the airport into the city are awesome, not very busy. don't pay for the beach near the port/castle - σκαλα λουτρον is a nice little get away that's close. great views, decent cafes things to avoid: - princess hotel (or whatever they call it, it's half way from the city in between the airport) - "Lesvos Shop" - driving in the city i never got around to it but apparently there's amazing λουκουμαδες in μανταμαδος and my favorite σουβλακι place is πολιχνιτος (along the harbor across from the κεπ building). great location, just better γυρος, of course they deliver (22510-44128) quite envious that you'll be there. not sure when i'll have the chance to go back.

BTW Trifylli all the way.

Does anyone know of any shoe shops in Athens?
I've tried to do some research but all I can find is Ermou St. but I can't find any more specific info.

I really hope they slash their salaries/bonuses etc as they do not deserve them.

At other places eateries etc service was generally good although sometimes moody.

Another Prasinos fan here and i don't mean PASOK.

I think many in those positions feel there is no threat to their jobs and it shows(rude and lazy). A few years ago me and my mom were selling a family owned store in Athens. While my mom waited in line to have some paper work approved I noticed a sign behind the employee counter that said NO SMOKING. I think all but one of the employees WAS SMOKING.

Panathaniakos here

None of any value

I had a shoemaker who measured me and then used a similarly sized last. I gave him a picture of what I wanted and was specific in what I desired. I was leaving Athens in a few days and was unable to return for any fitting, but told him ahead of time that I would have a person pick them up. I paid him in full as I was not returning.

He made exactly what I asked him to not make. The fit was too tight. It was a waste of 200 euros but taught me a good lesson.

Hi Stavros and the rest. This is Panagiotis from Thessaloniki, how are you? Is your surname Niarchos by any chance?

I heart Thessaloniki, my late gf was from there. Picked up some nice shoes a few summers ago for a wedding and still wear them occasionally. Very supple, soft white leather and many a compliment. Will be going in May again before it gets too hot.
