AMI Alexandre Mattiussi Thread

I didn't see a thread around here about this brand, so I figured I'd get one started.

About the designer (from Matches Fashion):

Mattiussi founded AMI in 2011, aged 30. His path had been shaped by stints working at Dior, on Givenchy’s men’s tailoring and at Marc Jacobs – big brands, big ideas. ‘I learnt how to work in fashion, I learnt how to make clothes, I learnt to think about marketing, to think about production,’ he says of his time at these storied houses. The aim for his own label, though, was different. ‘I really have to design things that my friends want to wear,’ he remarks. ‘I am not an intellectual designer, I am not a conceptual designer; I always say I am doing clothes for people who want to dress up a bit and look elegant, chic and cool at the same time.’

This spirit plays out in AMI’s collections and across its social media – reference the hashtag #familyami in which Mattiussi celebrates his team members alongside his own family. ‘We play music every day,’ he says of his office atmosphere. ‘Everybody is singing, everybody is laughing – sometimes it looks like a colonie de vacances! A summer camp!’

AMI Paris focuses on a minimalist luxury aesthetic while still encompassing a Parisian streetwear feel behind the clothing. A lot of his particular styling usually tends to convey a "lazy luxury" type of vibe, but all while being able to not look too casual and maintaining its versatility. The brand is mostly known for its Carrot Fit Trousers, usually casual wool pants with a taper towards the bottom, hence the name "carrot fit".

that second styled shot is really clean, i love those proportions.

I have two collared shirts that fit great, quality isn't up to the price point though. Definitely interested in some of the trousers and outerwear, but not sure it would fit with my wardrobe very well. I'd give it a go at deep discount (like the shirts I bought). I could see pieces fitting in well for people who wear things in the Lemaire/Schneider vibe. I oddly enough think his menswear for women stuff is cooler than the actual menswear.

Any thoughts on their most recent show? I think it was one of their strongest to date.

I liked it a lot.
The last two seasons have been really good in the runway so I’m curious to see how it translates to store buys. The SS19 stuff that’s showing up isn’t giving much hope though.
The textured outerwear from aw19 was killer and the price of it was pretty high by AMI standards. I was going to pre-order one of the cream long coats but after seeing the retail I decided to try and wait for sales
