Does anyone know why they stopped stocking the elgin and if they will ever bring it back? Maybe its been renamed to something else but I can't find it and have been looking for it...anyone ever going to sell or who knows where I can get a good quality used one in 9.5, please let me know
It makes sense for AE to do before/after photos. It promotes their refcrafting service which I suspect is more profitable than selling shoes.
I don't know if the recrafting itself is more profitable than selling brand new shoes, but the IDEA of recrafting certainly sells a lot of new shoes. In fact, one of the reasons I buy AE is the idea that, assuming I take care of them, they can be recrafted several times near-new condition for half the cost of new shoes!

I dunno. You made a good point though. Recrafting is roughly half the cost. I pressume the upper is where most of the manufacturing cost is. The welt, sole, and heel not so much. Yet you still pay half the price of a new shoe. I just can't believe AE has a higher margin on a new shoe vs. a recraft

I believe brooks brothers still sells their version of it. Are you open to buying used shoes? If so, you could check out the b&s forum or eBay.
The shoebank may still has BB seconds available, call up an outlet and see if there are any in your size.

Of course! I did my best to take some before pictures as well. . .so i'll try to get them in the same poses to really get the before/after vibe. Here's food for thought:
AE offers has "refinishing of the uppers" as part of their complete package. I asked Nick if this was possible on my shoes and he said that it wasn't possible on the shell. He would polish them up real nicely, but they wouldn't be refinished. As soon as he said this, it made perfect sense and I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I've seen one of the AE videos where the shell is being made at Horween. The "finish" is part of the preparing of the shell. . .so i'm not sure how AE is "refinishing" anything that's shell. . .
There is a new in box (seller claims it's overstock) pair of Walnut shell Dalton size 9.5D on eBay, with a buy-it-now price of $449.99...
Excellent price, I'd have pulled the trigger if it's in size 10D. You are in luck if your feet are size 9.5.
