No kidding: find things that engage you and keep you on your toes and you never get 'old'.

That said, I remeber more than a few times when I looked back and thought, ...man I was pretty dumb back then... and after this most recent time it occurred to me that I keep saying that, so I must still have a lot of dumb left in me. I take that as a positive.

Geez, how do you guys get out of bed in the morning? I'm 37, a suit-wearing bloodsucker, have two kids, and I've never felt old a day in my life!

God, I have crossed the big 40 and I started partying at 3p yesterday. The only difference is I pay more for it in the morning now.

At 22, the world is still your oyster. You are not time limited by any educational choices (by this I mean law school is now something I'll never do as I can't afford the opportunity costs nor achieve a good ROI on the real costs), you still are not a fully formed adult and have no excuse not to be out partying all night and shagging whatever will let you shag them.

For me, my 30s were where I really hit my stride and my 40s are shaping up to be even better.

This.

But there's also a strange contradictory feeling that I'm still a kid (26). Things that interested me in my late teens and early 20s (partying, drugs, and staying out late) have faded to a point where they're almost non-existent. Don't get me wrong, I still like to tie one on, but far less frequently. At the same time, I still love the things I did when I was a kid (comic books, punk rock, cartoons, and fart jokes). Also, I can't really say that I feel entirely responsible for my own well-being, even though I've been paying my own bills for a few years now.

When I was 22, I moved up to Long Island for graduate school. I knew no one, and it was another year and a half before my then girlfriend moved back to New York. I think those first few years were imperative to my development. Much like Rach was describing, I really came into my own and both discovered and determined the person I wanted to be.

Go ahead, feel old at 22, but also make sure you feel young at the same time.

Well said - it's just a number. I never understood the mystique of being in one's early 20s. Or turning 30. Or even turning 35, for that matter.

I might feel old when the kids leave home, or I might not. But on a day-to-day basis I don't feel substantially different now than I did ten years ago.

I like this. It seems to me people focus on age too much. Just waiting to die.

IMHO, 22 is the best year, your still young but older than 21 and younger than 25.

Now that I'm 25, I wish I could go back to 22

First, Happy Birthday!

Second, stop thinking about your age. You’re only as old as you feel, think and act.

I am now 24, and there are days when I feel I’m getting old; but then I shake that feeling away, go to the bar, meet some cute girlies and remind myself why life is an awesome thing.

All you have to know is that one day you will need help going to the bathroom, so enjoy your life NOW! Different age will bring different enjoyments; you have to do is be smart enough to recognize and enjoy them in that moment.

Nothing in life is worse then regret; live your life in a way that will make you think back and smile, not be miserable and full of regret.

Dude I'm 23 and for the life of me I can't remember being 22 or having any kind of feeling associated with that age.

Absolutely. I feel great, physically (I'm not a slug like most of my friends), mentally, and emotionally.

You need to cut back on Labatt's, then.

I think Teacher ought to start a thread titled: "Teacher's Tips for avoiding fuddy-duddy-hood."
