Perhaps an idiotic question, but are cashmere ties only meant to be worn in the winter? I just bought 2 Carlo Franco cashmere ties and would hate it if I could only wear them for another month.

Thanks,

Yes, winter only, in my estimation. They are too thick and textured to wear with lighter weight summer suits. It will look mismatched. Like a madras tie with a heavy tweed suit. Put em away, and you can wear them again in the fall.

I concur; cool weather only. (Fall, winter, and a blustery April.)

I generally go from October through April with them, putting them away for fall when it is warm/sunny enough for the linen to come out.

...it's 82 in Dallas today but the pool is still rather chilly.

You could wear it as soon as you don't feel too hot in your jacket suit in the street

Does this run true for cashmere or cahsmere blend sport coats?
IMO, cashmere is an all-year fabric, as long as all the components of what you're wearing are of similar weight (no lightweight linen slacks with a heavier cashmere jacket).

Funny to read this today, as I put on a new Malo reversible (pumpkin/brown) cashmere knit tie this morning, thinking it would be for the first--and no doubt last--time this season. I think any broadly 'woolen' tie, whether knit or woven, would probably be out of place after April at the latest. Though one seldom sees them, knit ties of silk, cotton, or linen could be worn in warmer weather. In college I had a white silk knitted tie with navy horizontal stripes that looked smart with blue hopsack blazer and white flannels. But I digress.

RE: Cashmere sportcoats in summer..

Not a problem. There are plenty of summer cashmere fabrics out there as well as some fabulous silk/cashmere blends (ie Loro Piana's cashmere cloud) and cashmere/linen blends.

Look at Kiton, Brioni and similar - they have some astoundingly light, airy cashmeres that work fine in summer when doen 1/4 lined.

Dallas is tough in August - at 120 degrees a bathing suit is the proper attire.
