is E that much wider than D? I have enough heel slip on the barrie in D
my wallet says no i shouldnt but i might just have to try and see if it works out.

From my experience, captoes tend to run a little narrow in the toebox than other models. I have gone up a size in the width with the Cigar Captoe boot and it worked out well. The caveat to that is the Cigar captoes are on the Grant and this pair is on the Barrie.

Yes, well, I was thankful because I don't particularly have $700 to burn

I kinda had that feeling based on your first post.

I'm glad to see it worked out for you.

On the other hand, I sure wish I had been able to get in on this in time.

However have to thank the beebs for letting us know, certainly appreciate the heads up.

Thanks,

yea i also have the captoe on the Grant and it fits fine but the combination of E and barrie is a bit much. ended up not pulling the trigger on these.

My buddy just bought some #8 Indys on Plaza from Frans Boone. A bit of a shoe novice, he asked me for a tutorial on shell care. Per sevenfoldtieguy's oft endorsement of Alden leather defender, I have recommended that product to him. My PTB's were due for a cleaning, so I also created this for him, which I thought I'd share:

Looks great, maybe it's only me, but too bad it's too small even after enlarging to actually read.

Disregard.

It appears as I actually can enlarge it more after clicking on it in my post after qouting it from your post.

Um, I've seen Nick Horween say not to use Lexol on shell. I'd stick to Venetian Cream or Saphir Renovateur. You shouldn't need the wax if you buff them enough, either.

Ya, I've seen that post and that is complete nonsense; there's no substantiation to that. There are no ill-affects to using Lexol on any leather. Regarding wax, even the Mac method involves a light coat of Kiwi every now and then. And, no amount of buffing brought out the gloss that wax did.

What's wrong with using a cream-based treatment like saphir?

Hey guys, new to Aldens. Been researching a bunch. Is cigar a super rare color? Or #4? I'd like to know what colors are rare so I can scoop up the right shoe when it comes in stock somewhere. Thanks.

Comparatively speaking, cigar is rare, #4 is super rare.
In general, the lighter the colour, the rarer they are.
