I'm not trying to get involved in stirring up a hornet's nest nest.gif Nor am I trying to offend anyone who may be Chinese or be of Chinese heritage around here.  I work with Chinese people in my field, and they are great, genuine, hard working folk.  Strictly from an observation standpoint, I think the original poster's intent was to say that right now the Chinese seem to be extremely heavy on the consumption side of things rather than on the contributing side of things.  In all honesty, almost the entire list of inventions from that Wikipedia list date back to the late middle ages or earlier.  The list of modern inventions is only a handful and they are mostly science lab stuff that may mean something to you if you work in the appropriate field or have had a specific reason for it to apply to you.  Obviously Chinese culture is quite ancient and has contributed to the world's knowledge in unimaginable ways, but in our lifetimes (no matter how old you are), we have really only seen a black hole effect going on.

Not sure what difference that makes.  If you look at the original post, Alpina said, "other than gunpowder and Confucianism," which also predates the US, China hasn't had an original idea and therefore couldn't surpass the US or lead...  I assumed this meant he was evaluating all of China's history seeing as how he was going back more than 2,000 years to dig up what he thought was China's only original ideas.

My point was that great civilizations that have led the world both created ideas and borrowed from others.  In the history of mankind, China has certainly proven itself to be among the most innovative and creative civilizations. There is a reason why it is the longest-lasting, continuous civilization in history, and second isn't even close.  Sorry once again for interrupting the thread, but as a teacher of history I could not let that bit of ignorance go unchecked. (Sorry Alpina, I mean no disrespect or ill will)   And I think I did get what you were intimating, as MoneyWellSpent just illuminated ^^^. but it rubbed me the wrong way as it may have with those of Chinese ancestry.

Cheers and time to move on and post some pics...  nod[1].gif

Could it be that all of the shell models you are looking for in your size are all out of stock?  The shell offerings are still posted on their website.

Woke up to an email from Oki, plaza captoe #8s have been confirmed and are four months out . Today shall be a good day. As to the Indy discussion, I agree a plaza doesn't really look like a true Indy. The plaza is my favorite of all the Alden lasts but the Indy was meant to be an unapologetic, beefy , hulk.

Congrats on a sweet makeup!

I guess those guys just dont want my business as I have bought like 5 pairs of shoes from them and can barely ever get an email returned, let alone any advanced notification.

I have the same shoe on order with J Gilbert and it was confirmed last week for the same timing; I guess Alden will be busy building this model for a bit.

+1

I didn't think they Leydon would work as they are a bit narrow for my feet. However because they are unlined and suede, they just fit wonderfully. I haven't found that they stretched much at all bee the last few years.

Did you go with the 8.5d? I have an 8.5 in a ptb and the slippage is a little more than I'd like.

interesting.. I always thought they leaned more to the whiskey shade, but I'm curious why they wouldn't ever update the pics to show actual representation (as they appear to have a single size still in stock)

off to find out...

shaunw, never seen anything like that. Very unique looking saddle shoe. They'd look great with golf spikes.
