I own both and like both. But the color 8 model is more versatile. Knowing nothing about your collection, I would tip the scale in favor of the 2145 on color alone. You could also give some thought to the medallion toe blucher at JGilbert. It is on the Plaza last. And they offer 8 and black shell.

It's one of the best models Alden makes.

would people want color 4 so bad if it was as common as color 8?

Yea I think it's scarcity makes for it's desirability much more so than it's color.
