it's kind of like choosing between 2 supermodels...I received my Alden/J.Crew #8 PCT boots a couple of weeks ago and am totally happy with them. The close heel and regular welt (not a storm welt) make them much sleeker than most Barrie makeups (well, as sleek as a Barrie can look anyway). Then a few days ago, AE finally shipped me my replacement burgundy shell Daltons, which I really like as well. I wanted to share some comments and see if anyone has any feedback or could share their impressions if they have either of these.
- I much prefer the finishing on the Alden. They seem to have the process down perfectly where the shell leather is so smooth and unblemished. It's also much shinier but that's not a big deal to me as I'm not a fan of mirror shines.
- As the pictures show, the Alden has much more of the eggplant coloring, which really stands out in a flash picture or in bright sunlight. The AE's have more of a brown tinge to them. I don't prefer one to the other; I like both.
It is indeed
In case anyone wanted more #4 wingtip vs captoe comparison photos ...
Gahhh you're right. Should have clarified ad said its the first suede shoe I've seen posted. Looks very nice either way.
Anyways the lil' collection is complete, although I guess I'll always keep out a feeler for a #4... dream #4 shoo would be #4 plaza/grant (or modified for full unicorn) captoe commando sole blind eyelet buuuut not so likely

PlazaThey look great. Are they on the Leydon of Barrie last? Wondering whether I should pick up a pair of these myself.
The Dalton looks very nice. My J. Crew cap toe boots shined up tremendously well. they developed a mirror toe quite easily, but I eventually toned it down considerably to make them more versatile. Mirror toe looked great with business attire but not so great with casual attire.
AE's made such a significant change to their burgundy shell. I assume that's why they had such a big sale on all burgundy shell shoes early this year. I much prefer the "new" burgundy color (as shown in your Dalton) but the "old" color doesn't exactly look badly. I ended up buying the burgundy shell Leeds/PTB and Macneil longwing at a steep discount early in the year.
Nice boots! You are perfectly suited for fall, winter and spring
