question for my fellow addicts.

I want to get on board on the epaulet cigar preorder, but am hopelessly lost in my decision btw the SWB or LWB.

my only shell alden non-boots are my #8 LWB with antique edge trim from Leffot. Is the cigar swb boot still en route at Epaulet?

My style is fairly casual...pretty slim selvage denim most days on bottom. are SWB too dressy for jeans/casual shirt wear?

do any of you with similar style own the leather soul #8 swb? curious to hear your thoughts

Will a medium alden shoe tree fit a Cap Toe Boot on Grant last in size 8?

Am I missing something? Of course it's photoshopped; the boot doesn't exist yet. Do you all have a better suggestion for offering an approximation of a custom design?

Agreed; I didn't understand the implicit criticism either.

And as to price, Mike made a mistake on the initial preorder. Its actually a $250 deposit and the boot is likely to cost in the $495 range.

Question for Saphir users....

Do you use Mahogany or Burgandy for Color 8 or am I better off just using the Alden Color 8 wax?

Does anyone have any experience with the Alden's Chamois Leather? Do you like how it looks or ages? How do you care for it? Like suede? Thanks

It's a heavily oiled reverse chamois leather…very durable. The appearance is that of a matted suede and it's very comfortable on your feet. To maintain reverse chamois use neatsfoot oil occasionally. What shoe or boot are you considering?

People (including me) wear the Ralph Lauren Marlow/Darlton wintips (which is basically a cigar shortwing blucher on a double leather sole) with anything from jeans to suits. They look great with jeans. The Epaulet order should look similarly good with jeans.

I've been deciding between these both as well, and I'm going with the LWB. I already have a #8 wingtip boot in my rotation and a Ravello wingtip boot on the way, so I wasn't really looking for another shortwing. But both of the Epaulet makeups should turn out great, as they usually do. Their Cigar Brixton boot is on the way and I believe they'll have it in store in about 8-12 weeks, so if you didn't want to wait for the SWB pre-order, you can jump on that boot instead since it will be available much sooner.

Bah, Tassels sold out of the unlined color 8 PTB. I may get in on the J Gilbert double waterlock PTB order instead...

Thank you for answering - I'm looking at these from Shoe Mart

I don't think the are the reverse type though

Finally popped my Alden cherry and sprung for a pair of saddles:

I know it's not a crowd fave, but I wasn't in a boot mood (Indy) and already have some wingtips. It was down to this or some chukka boots and the more comfy pair won out. Also, I know I might get some groans for this, but the search function wasn't helping me and I got tired researching the 1000+ pages in this thread...
Do you guys treat your Aldens (and, I guess, any other leather shoe) before you wear them out? If so, what do you use? That cheap leather spray from Foot locker? I don't, but I'm thinking I should start...

Nice pair of shoes. I'm stalking the right pair of oxford saddles myself. Not sure you need to treat them with anything before you wear them out, though a gentle break in period can't hurt. I'm sure there'll be plenty of suggestions about what to put on to care for them as you wear them. I'm partial to Venetian Shoe Cream and Montana Pitch Blend pretty much across the board, but then I like to keep things simple.

Enjoy the Aldens, wear them in good health, and post some photos once they're broken in.

Very nice. Where from?

Pretty sure these are the Leffot makeup that just dropped (although JPFNY5's photos show a boot with a color thats way more saturated than the pics on leffots site)

Those are indeed the Leffot's... They are pretty intriguing but I will just wait for the blue suede LWB's, now THOSE are some beauties.
