THESE ARE BEAUTIFUL! This is coming from a guy who hates black shoes. I would definitely hop on a pre-order of these and wait the 12-18 months if need be.

They look great.

I seem to recall Tom specifically saying that they hate this question and won't answer it over the phone.

I wonder why? Can't check inventory? Seems strange.

That looks like it escaped its purple dye paint job.

I think it's more to do with the person in the store answering the phone is also the one manning the floor. When I was in Waikiki last Summer there was only one person working the several times I walked by or stopped in the store.

But then he'd have to return them when he finds out they're not CXL.
Brown J Crew LWB, Winn Perry CXL PTB, LS Ultimate Indy CXL.

Not sure what your point is, first CXL can be dyed to be lighter or darker (my CXLs are "natural" color). Second, if he ordered them and they were not CLX I would demand that Crew pay the return shipping.

going back a few posts to the QC issue with the whiskey LWB and the missing perforations in the brogue die, i just realized that my new #8 LWB from Leffot w antique edgetrim have the same issue on both shoes (one missing perforation on each shoe).

Wouldn't this technically qualify them as seconds?

I just checked my #8 LWB from the SF Alden shop and my Cigar LWB from Alden of Carmel and they both have the missing perforation. It is likely by design. I don't mind at all.

Maybe for a pair of Lobbs, but these don't cost Lobb money.

With all due respect, the Lobbs have a completely different aesthetic. It's like comparing apples and oranges. While their shoes might be expertly made (perhaps with more of an eye for detail and finish than Alden), their appearance and price range is quite apart from Alden. I would say a large chunk of the folks that appreciate Alden shoes do so for the cordovan and the shape and style of the shoe which are unique and beautiful in their own right.
