Had my 403's for less than a month and one of the laces already snapped! :( I'll probably shoot Alden SF an email and see what they say!

Pull-up leather rocks. Shell Cordovan rocks. I sorta feel like I don't want normal leather ever again. In fact, I cannot look at a pair of normal leather shoes with the same respect any more.

I know what you mean, however, regular, full grain calf certainly has its place. Pull-up leather (like CXL) is durable, very water/stain resistant and looks great but doesn't shine nearly as well as top grain calf (which is why they don't use it on finer dress footwear). I suppose you could simply own pull up leather for your casual footwear and shell for everything else. Now that I think about it, that's not a bad plan at all.

If you're using the plain flat laces with indy's get used to it. Call Alden and they'll send you more...

Speaking of that gorgeous blue suede, anyone know where I can pick up something high in that color? Either a boot or chukka?

Now that I think about it, what color does the natural CXL leather "pull up" to?

Also, did not realize that the JCrew 405s were CXL. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they do that because the 405 is the "classic" Indy model and the image they want to portray in their collaborations seems to be that of bringing back classic offerings from other companies.

got Saphir Cordovan and tried this morning

i've never tried Rénovateur, can anyone compare between Rénovateur & Cordovan?

Interesting. I've used Renovateur on cordovan (and other leather) and it works quite well. I wonder if this Saphir Cordovan stuff is just the same thing.

When I bought my 403s at the San Francisco Alden Shop, the sales guy (Robert) threw in extra laces for me without me even asking. He also threw in a plastic Alden shoe horn. He said "You'll definitely be needing these things". :D

I called Steven about that shoe in that size a little over a week ago and he said they were sold out. :(

I really didn't need them anyway. This month alone i've bought a pair of the AE Bradley Shells (when they were on the website for $250), I ordered a pair of AE Daltons in Walnut Cordovan, I received a pair of Brown AE Fifth Street boots and I just ordered a pair of Alden Cigar Indy boots with commando soles and all eyelets. The Indys should be here in Jan. Rough month on the pocket book but my feet are happy!
