I think the problem was less that you were smiling than that you weren't wearing any pants at the time.

I have a suspicion not everything here is the way it seems. I am starting to doubt Sator is some European dude with a title in the 19th century.

Oh, but I eschew pants far more often than I try smiling. I think it shows a charming and vulnerable side of me. I thought it would make for a great conversation starter, but alas...

"Hey there... no pants today? What's up with that?" seems to me a perfectly fine way to start off a conversation.

Well, it certainly seems easier to digest than the sarongs I used to wear. People didn't know what to say. Seriously, what do you say to a co-worker when he turns up in a turquoise sarong?

I think impostering is among the top reasons the internet exists (after sharing Appreciation). Not that any of us do such, of course

but I don't think the internet would be what it is without the double (triple, octuple) identity angle, totally aside from dodgy sellers and outright cons, that so appeals to people, whether they wish they're someone else or just want to pose as such to troll for sex/affection, validation of their views or self-image, whatevah.

Those of you in IT, marketing and law enforcement know that a HUGE number of market research, academic and political activist/NGO-types (aside from the police and intell crews) are regular participants in forum threads and chats to monitor discussions for targeting sales, determining societal attitudes, documenting incidents of bigotry, etc

Fair to assume many members here are either bullsh*ters or posting items to test out marketing ideas. In my mind as long as the bullsh*ters are just getting an image boost and aren't attempting to con into members wallets, they can enjoy being whoever they want, and as for the marketing types, I want some damn discount codes!

i always wished i could pull off the double identity thing...not online though, that's not fun. far more interesting to navigate the social waters of a world class metropolis as a wheelin dealin, schemin son of a *****.

^^Or you can just let a certain cassette playa wearin' dood be your better half for a bit :d:

I don't know why people do this though. It seems like a waste of time to me. I've only really been an active part of 3 message boards (here, sufu, and this car forum i joined when 16, that i still check in on). I always end up being myself. It's hard not to. Especially when you connect with people, and genuinely enjoy chatting with them through this format. I've met some people from that car forum a few times and had some food/beers, and i've met 2 guys from sufu/sf although neither are active members and we met by happenstance. I wouldn't stick around a forum if i felt i couldn't be myself or if i didn't enjoy the company of the members. I don't really understand the concept of trolling a forum.
