I bought a RL rugby shirt the other day on a wim. It's incredibly comfortable, navy blue with a white collar. The thing that I don't really like is that it has diamond padding on the shoulders and elbow patches, both of which are navy blue as well, but nice touches that set one apart from the rest. I would have liked to have the elbow patches leather. I'm just wondering if this is something I should keep or use the money for something else. It feels like a novelty item that I don't really need. Anyone else wear rugby shirts? I'm 28 if that factors in.

A string of questions:

Could I use a solid black knit tie with a white-cotton-black-edges PS and a dark gray suit? Is that too much?

Just to check, would a solid black knit tie be useful/widely applicable purchase? Or would a navy knit tie be more applicable in general?

On the flip side, how casually can you use a skinny (2.5in) black tie? I was wondering if I could wear that with a grey suit to church on Sunday (maybe even only Good Friday). Otherwise, it feels like a clubbing item to me- I just want to hear opinions b/c I'm a n00blet

Also, if I were to get another white PS with colored edges, would navy be a useful color? I only have like basic tie and shirt colors- navy blue, grey, white, light blue, and black.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm a poor college student building a wardrobe for the young, modern, slim look.

Both navy and black knit ties have lots of uses although they are, as you point out, more casual and probably not suitable for interviews or business attire. As for pocket squares, solid white is considerably more useful and versatile than white with any kind of colored edge.

what do you all think about a tie, shirt and slacks, sans sweater or coat?

i would really like to start wearing ties more regularly, but my first thought is that a tie without a coat or sweater is a No. It always feels as though the outfit is missing something...but would like to be convinced otherwise...

I never wear tie without outerwear. Be it a coat, a sweater, a cardigan, or a jacket. Though I confess I do not own any skinny ties. Maybe that will go over better.

So I just got a pair of sunglasses from ebay (Persol 714) and they don't fit me. The glasses keep on sliding down my face. Was just wondering is there any way of fixing it? Eg adding nose pad, bending the frames, etc Or do I just have to look for another model?

Anyone ever seen this label / know anything about this brand?
Label reads Gillian Hunter Cashmere, Made in Scotland. That's the only label left on the sweater at all, but it's 4-ply, huge MOP buttons on it, weighs a ton - so I've held on to it even though I wasn't sure what it was. It's definitely men's - the buttons are on the wearer's right side - but I haven't been able to find ANYTHING else about this company / designer / maker anywhere online, which seems pretty strange since it's so nice. Oh, and the red mark on the tag is a red S which looks to have been marker of some sort - probably sample/sale/second/something like that, you know the drill. Any ideas anyone has about it would be awesome. Just to clarify, I think I've been able to slightly stretch it just a tad via handwashing to where it's comfortable, not tight, on me, so I'll be keeping it - don't worry, this isn't showing up on the 'bay or anything!
