I've got two pairs of Aldens that are a bit large on me, I think due to weight loss. I got tongue pads but they're still a bit too roomy. The man in the shop recommended getting in-soles. Can anyone recommend in-soles for dress shoes? Alternatively, who makes a nice a OTC dress sock that is a bit thick?

1. If tongue pads are not enough, then your shoes are two big now. It's better to sell them and buy those that do fit.
2. Pantherella wool OTC socks are quite thick.

How simple is it to alter a tie, say from 3.5 inches down to 2.5 inches?

I'm a really small guy so standard ties over 3 inches wide look terrible on me.

However I've found some great paisley ties that I really love.

Any advice or links to tie altering instructions would be very much appreciated. I own a sewing machine.

I've just taken delivery of a pair of Trickers' boots, but there's a bit of excess glue on the inside, which makes my socks sticky. Can anyone recommend the best thing to use to get rid of the glue without damaging the leather? Thanks!

100% Crockett & Jones. Looks like handgrade standard.

They feel lighter than my handgrades but I'll take your word for it.

The suede feels like it has less nap than my other crocketts.

They're probs gonna go on the b & s, single monks fwiw.

Well, C&J makes shoes according to N&L's specifications. So they may not be exactly like handgrade. That said, several elements often seen in handgrade C&J are present, at least from the pictures, such as channeled soles and one-piece insoles.

How should the ankle of a boot fit? I rarely wear boots, but I tried on a a pair of Alden Indy Boots, and I noticed that when I laced the top lace-hook tight, there was still about a centimeter of room between the boot any my ankle? The boot fit well in the foot but that seems like a problem. Does the ankle get skinnier if I get a narrower boot? Thanks
